CM Revanth Reddy’s Vision for Hyderabad Future City: Building India’s Next Global Metropolis
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has described Hyderabad Future City as more than just another real estate project. According to his vision, Future City is intended to become a global economic engine that will shape Telangana’s growth for decades and position the state among the world’s leading innovation destinations.
From Cyberabad to Future City
Hyderabad witnessed massive transformation with the development of HITEC City and Cyberabad during the IT boom. Revanth Reddy now aims to create the next chapter in Telangana’s growth story through Bharat Future City, envisioned as Hyderabad’s fourth major urban centre after Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad.
A $1 Trillion Economy Vision
The Chief Minister has linked Future City directly to Telangana’s ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2035 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. The project is expected to attract global investment, create large-scale employment opportunities and strengthen Telangana’s position as an economic powerhouse.
A Global City Built to International Standards
Revanth Reddy has repeatedly stated that Future City should compete with international cities such as Tokyo, Singapore and New York. The government plans to adopt global best practices in urban planning, sustainability, public transportation and digital infrastructure.
Focus on Technology and Innovation
Unlike traditional industrial zones, Future City is being designed around industries of the future, including:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Global Capability Centres (GCCs)
- Data Centres
- Green Pharma
- Biotechnology
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Research and Innovation Ecosystems
The government hopes these sectors will attract Fortune 500 companies and create high-value jobs for future generations.
A Net-Zero Green City
Environmental sustainability forms a major part of the Chief Minister’s vision. Future City is planned as a net-zero city, focusing on renewable energy, electric mobility, water conservation and reduced carbon emissions.
The broader Telangana strategy includes electric public transport, metro expansion and promotion of green industries to ensure long-term environmental sustainability.
World-Class Infrastructure
The government plans extensive infrastructure investments including:
- Metro rail expansion
- Wide expressways and radial roads
- Airport connectivity
- Smart utilities and digital infrastructure
- Integrated residential and commercial districts
The objective is to avoid the unplanned growth challenges faced by many rapidly expanding cities.
Future City Development Authority (FCDA)
To ensure proper planning and implementation, the Telangana Government established the Future City Development Authority (FCDA), a dedicated authority responsible for land use planning, infrastructure development and governance of the project area.
The FCDA headquarters was inaugurated by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in June 2026, marking an important milestone in the project’s execution.
Expanding Beyond Hyderabad’s Current Boundaries
Future City currently spans approximately 30,000 acres across multiple mandals in South Hyderabad. The Chief Minister has indicated that additional villages may be incorporated into the development zone as the project expands in future phases.
The Road Ahead
Revanth Reddy’s vision is ambitious: to create a city that combines economic growth, environmental sustainability and global competitiveness. If executed successfully, Future City could become for the 2030s what Cyberabad became for the early 2000s — a transformational project that reshapes Hyderabad’s economy and urban landscape.
For Telangana, Future City is not merely a construction project; it is a long-term strategy to create jobs, attract investment and build a globally recognized city for future generations.
